When you need to make the most of your times, it goes without saying that planning is key. One thing is certain: not being able to take long leaves from the office does not mean you cannot travel!

After surviving the grueling winter months, you deserve to enjoy all the sun! Some of these can seem a bit too much at first, but don't knock it until you try it and I guarantee that your body may be tired, but your peace of mind will be all worth it.

  1. Check all the holidays in your country, and evaluate a first possibility considering your foreseeable work schedule and commitments.
  2. Use those holidays to stretch your annual leave days as much as possible.
  3. Do not waste any of those annual leave days to stay home. You won't always be able to bridge a Thursday holiday into the weekend, but when you cannot travel, just go to work on Friday.
  4. Don't rule out short flights for normal weekends. It is perfectly possible to fly out Friday night and be back in the office on Monday morning.
  5. For really short flights, consider taking the train instead. If the train journey would take less than 4 hours, don't fly. If it's between 4-6 hours, it boils down to a case by case basis, considering the easiness of airport-city transfers and personal comfort.
  6. Don't drive. You absolutely need the flight/train periods to rest.
  7. Some destinations may require a car rental, for others, a taxi/uber and public transport are absolutely the best options. All 101 posts will indicate this clearly.
  8. Master how to use skyscanner to secure the best flight deals.
  9. Get genius status on booking.com.
  10. Have a credit card with a good points program that works for you. Automatic transfer of points to a mileage program is even better. To make the most of this, you need to use your credit card as much as possible. But be careful and control your expenses! The interests that could accrue if you cannot settle your whole monthly bill could easily offset any advantage.
