Ibis Styles Amsterdam Amstel ***
As already pointed out, I believe four elements are crucial when choosing accommodation, and in my personal order of importance:
- cleanliness,
- location,
- structure/comfort, and
- service/staff.
For this second hotel mini-review, I explain my rationale for choosing a hotel in Amsterdam, famous for its expensive accommodation.
Disclaimer: this is an honest and personal review of my stay, as a regular paying customer, not a sponsored partnership.
Cleanliness
Absolutely clean.
Location
For starters, my goal was to stay as close as possible to Amsterdam Centraal. Unfortunately, that's not budget-friendly at all but it was a short trip and that's where I'd have easy access from/to the train connecting to the airport and the city center itself.
Unwilling to splurge, in situations like this, I search for an alternative that necessarily must have easy links to my reference points. And I found it at Ibis Styles Amsterdam Amstel.
It is a couple minutes walk from a tram station (Line 4) connecting you directly to Amsterdam Centraal in 6 stops, with total journey time around 15-20min.
Beyond that, you have Rijksmuseum and the I Amsterdam sign 10 minutes away by foot. Not to mention that staying by the canals, you can wander around in beautiful settings.
That saved me half the cost with accommodation, without adding great inconveniences. Now that is a good compromise in my book 🙂
Structure & Comfort
Ibis Styles Amsterdam Amstel is set in a renovated characteristic canal house, with its ups and downs. It is definitely charming but not very spacious, as usual for accommodations in Amsterdam. But it is certainly comfortable enough for a short stay.

Service & Staff Friendliness
Very friendly, although staying only 1 night without specific wishes, I could not evaluate further.
BALANCE
Considering the good levels of cleanliness, structure, and service, as well as the great location, I recommend it. Due to the real challenge of finding good cost/benefit options in Amsterdam, this will certainly be a reference for my future trips too. Thumbs up
